Jean Saudé (life dates unknown)
Saudé trained in the workshop of André Marty in the 1890s and contributed pochoirs to the 1898 portfolio of Hector Guimard’s Le Castel Béranger. After establishing his own workshop, Ibis, around 1900, Saudé was in demand for three decades, executing pochoirs for design portfolios, magazines, and illustrated books, and working with designers and artists such as Georges Lepape, George Barbier and Umberto Brunelleschi. Acknowledged as the master of the pochoir, he wrote a guide to the technique, Traité d'enluminure d'art au pochoir, in 1925.
