The center mask is held in the left hand with two weights on the mask of the frame, and, turning around the left hand, the color is applied with a single uninterrupted movement. Using two stencils—one to do the left half and one to do the right—would leave a mark where the two meet and is therefore best avoided (see plate 5, the blue mask).
